AirPop Light SE review - claimed washable FFP2
Note, Elapsed time for all of this was late Nov 2022 thru early Jan
Sitting at desk just surfing - that silicone pad is no good for my middle-aged Norman (high nose bridge) nose - I can feel air coming in and out that way, bypassing the filter. Results;
Using my left hand only, I press that fabric covering the silicone nose pad (still surfing at desk). Results:
Wash 1 (johnsons baby shampoo, hand-hot water, no wringing & drip dry, then atop radiator protected by cloth);
Wash 2: 94.2% average
Wash 3:
Run 1: 97.9977%, ave so far: 97.9977%
Run 2: 98.2662%, ave so far: 98.1352%
- Adding nose wire -
Imperfectly stuck on heavy-duty nose wire (tests above needed fingers pressing the AirPop Light SE onto my nose). Wire was pulled off an FFP3 mask - the Airpop Light SE purports to be FFP2
That was much better:
Run 1: 93.8387% Run 5: 93.2278%
Run 2: 95.7372% Run 6: 94.9051%
Run 3: 95.8567% Run 7: 94.7403%
Run 4: 95.6508% Run 8: 93.9871%
Average: 94.7469%
High: 95.8567%
Low: 93.2278%
Airpop should have a pocket for removable nose wire to allow for wash/dry!
- Changing the nose wire again -
Guess what, my AirPop now has a carefully sewn-on pocket for my heavy duty aluminum nose wire:
(wash 5) Same one washed again: 89.0690% PFE average.
Inexact, but I think the air leaking is the lowest edge of the mask which isn't under my chin. The new nose wire is still in place and wasn't removed for the wash/dry
Same one washed again (wash 6), but dried on a radiator this time:
Average: 92.8678% PFE, Fit-Factor 14.0
High: 93.4591%, Fit-Factor: 15.3
Low: 91.9355%, Fit-Factor: 12.4
Washed once more (wash 7) 87.3391%, Fit-Factor 7.9. Recall this has added nose wire. If I push on all edges 9changing this from a fit test to a fabric filtration test) it goes up 1/2 a percent. The fabric is degrading with washing, it looks like.
One more wash: 87.5618% PFE & Fit-Factor 8.04 (wash 8)
One more wash: 89.1545%, Fit-Factor 9.22 (wash 9)
One more wash: 91.3% PFE (wash 10)
